VTVCab Vietnam embraces direct-to-TV approach to expand consumer market via Samsung smart TVs

TVkey Cloud by NAGRA and Samsung set to enable instant and secure out-of-the-box activation of Vietnam-based operator’s pay-TV service – no set-top-box required.

Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland and Phoenix, (AZ), USA June 9th, 2022 NAGRA, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the world's leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the market leader in consumer electronics, today announced VTVCab, one of Vietnam’s largest pay-TV players, has selected TVkey Cloud to deploy its direct-to-TV service on Samsung UHD TVs.

With TVkey Cloud, VTVCab can now offer its service to a new addressable market, including people purchasing a brand-new Samsung TV or having already purchased a compatible model in the last two years. The direct-to-TV services enables consumers with VTVCab service discovery as part of the first-time TV setup via pop-up menu, followed by intuitive service activation in just a few clicks of the remote control.

With the TVkey cloud solution, customers can use VTVCab's HD digital television service directly on their TVs without the need for an HD receiver. In the future, VTVCab and other providers will continue to cooperate to deploy more unique and richer content packages to increase the user experience.

With successful commercial launches already in Germany and Ghana, NAGRA’s partnership with Samsung is now expanding to Asia with the latest deployment with VTVCab. TVkey Cloud gives viewers access to the best content straight out-of-the-box and delivers an intuitive user experience, available either through an HbbTV operator app or a fast time-to market option. TVkey Cloud brings together the security capabilities of the TVkey embedded hardware root of trust in the TV with sophisticated security management systems in the cloud, enabling compliance with MovieLabs requirements for Enhanced Content Protection of 4K Ultra HD, HDR, and early release content.

Jointly defined by NAGRA and Samsung, NAGRA will use its Security Service Platform (SSP) delivered as-a-service from Amazon Web Services as the backend system. Samsung has implemented the TVkey client inside its 2020 and new models of UHD smart TVs. TVkey Cloud is available to the wider ecosystem of industry players, including conditional access vendors and TV manufacturers, who wish to use its capabilities to bring operator user experience and advanced services directly to the TV screen. It is supported by NAGRA’s range of content protection technologies.
