  • TVkey enables consumers to discover a richer world of premium pay-TV content quickly and easily, including 4K and HDR, delivered directly to their TV sets
  • TVkey meets MovieLabs requirements for Enhanced Content Protection, including watermarking
  • Latest win marks the third year in a row that NAGRA wins the top spot in the same category

Cheseaux-sur Lausanne, Switzerland and Seoul, Korea – 28 September, 2017NAGRA, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the world's leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the market leader in home entertainment for over ten years, announced today that TVkey won the award for “Best Content Protection Technology” at the 15th annual CSI Awards, held during the 2017 International IBC show in Amsterdam, the premier global gathering of content creation and delivery professionals.

“We are very excited to once again win this prize and share the recognition with Samsung for TVkey,” said Maurice Van Riek, Senior Vice President Content and Asset Security for NAGRA. “TVkey is a uniquely elegant solution that easily brings pay-TV services to the big screen in the living room, adding yet another attractive feature to drive new television sales and helping consumers discover a richer world of pay-TV content more quickly and economically. It is one of those rare products that provides value to not only the CE industry but also to pay-TV service providers and consumers alike.”

“We are delighted to receive this award along with NAGRA for TVkey,” said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We welcome this recognition of the results of our collaboration on content security and see this as further evidence that TVkey is being established as the next generation content protection system for direct delivery to consumer TVs."

As competition for new subscribers intensifies, TVkey provides pay-TV operators with an ultra-low-cost route to market for their services and gives consumers the ability to enjoy premium content, including 4K Ultra HD and HDR, directly on all Samsung Smart TVs through a simple sign-up process with their pay-TV provider. The system provides the highest level of content protection and meets MovieLabs requirements for Enhanced Content Protection of premium 4K UHD/HDR content with watermarking by NexGuard.

Since launching in February 2017 with German satellite provider HD+, TVkey is expanding to India and Latin America and has reached new milestones of retail bundling and chipset partners. Both NAGRA and Samsung plan to open the solution to additional third parties including other TV manufacturers and content protection vendors in the near future.

The CSI Awards are among the most prestigious and competitive technology awards in the industry, designed to celebrate excellence and achievement in the broadcast, video, OTT and IoT sectors. This latest win marks the third year in a row that NAGRA has won the top prize in the “Best Content Protection” category. In 2016, NAGRA’s PROTECT cardless conditional access won the award, and in 2015, the company’s converged CAS and DRM solution for connected devices, NAGRA CONNECT, was recognized.
