NAGRA highlights technology trends in content protection and multiscreen delivery at TV Connect Africa!

Cheseaux, Switzerland – November 10, 2016 – NAGRA, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the world's leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, will be at TV Connect Africa 2016 from November 15 to 17, 2016. The company will highlight pay-TV technology strategies that support different types of African business models and trends that African pay-TV operators can leverage to deliver, evolve and operate their TV business. NAGRA will present at the TV Connect Africa conference and showcase its latest technologies on Stand TV22 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa.

“It is an exciting time for the African pay-TV market, with more and more services reaching consumers all over the continent. It is also the right time for service providers to think carefully about their technology requirements, now and into the future,” said Christopher Schouten, Senior Director of Product Marketing. “A cheap solution today can be very expensive tomorrow if there is piracy, if higher-value content is offered, or if the chosen provider no longer provides the support or features required. I look forward to sharing a view of the African pay-TV landscape at the conference, as well as giving visitors an opportunity to experience and inquire about our latest technologies.”

In “How Content Protection Is Evolving to Protect Growing African Businesses,” on Tuesday, November 15th at 3:50 p.m., Schouten will cover a variety of topics affecting the African TV landscape and its business models. The presentation will explore content protection from a holistic perspective, scaling CAS and DRM total cost of ownership to different business needs, and key factors to consider when selecting a content protection solution.

On the show floor, visitors to the NAGRA booth will be able to learn about innovating, monetizing and growing their pay-TV business using latest technologies from NAGRA and SmarDTV. NAGRA’s anyCAST content protection and MediaLive business services platforms can help service providers efficiently deliver broadcast and on-demand content to set-top boxes, smartphones and tablets leveraging IP, cloud and data technologies. Devices on display will include a SmarDTV OTT set-top box and an HD zapper secured by NAGRA anyCAST PROTECT cardless, hardware-based content protection.

SmarDTV will further complement the showcase through demonstrations of its Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) and brand-new PicoCASTER device. SmarDTV CAMs enable pay-TV on integrated CI+-based digital TVs. They support NAGRA anyCAST PROTECT and also allow OTT delivery of operator content directly to the TV over Wi-Fi, providing a fully interactive TV experience at a fraction of the price of a hybrid set-top box. The SmarDTV PicoCASTER enables the delivery of live broadcast channels anywhere in the home to any mobile device using the local Wi-Fi network, enabling a rich multiscreen experience in areas with low broadband penetration.
